* Christmas Cards *
It's that time of year again, when everyone you ignore the
rest of the year send you a subtle reminder that they're still alive and
kicking. You go to check your mail, and hidden in between your bills and
some junk mail is a Christmas card.
At that moment, you start realizing this is just the beginning of what will soon be
a huge assortment of "Happy Holidays" and "From our family to yours". You
will soon gather a decent collection of family portraits, all looking
slightly to their right and dressed in their 'Sunday best' clothes. As if
receiving all these Christmas cards isn't enough, you may soon fear checking
your email due to the growing popularity of Christmas E-cards. Now, given a
choice, I'll gladly accept an E-card over a mailed paper card. I understand
it's considered more personal to send a card with a family portrait in the
mail than it is to send an E-card with a couple pictures attached. I don't
understand how a good portion of these same people that send out tons of
these cards spend the rest of the year explaining how most people are evil
for not being more environmentally helpful and for wasting the planet's
resources. Can you detect the hypocrisy here?
I'm an not a grinch. I just don't see the point in sending
out Christmas cards when I know I personally could care less. It's nice to
know you care enough to remember me during this time of year, but I
certainly wouldn't mind just getting an E-card. If you do send a Christmas
E-card, at least now you know you won't have to worry if I thought it was
impersonal... I'll be happy, and isn't that what the holiday season is all
about?
