* Gay Marriage Ban *

One of the biggest controversies all over the United States is the ban on gay marriage. A lot has been for and against gay marriage, and I, like many others, have our opinions on this.

Religion has been used primarily against gay marriage. Christians primarily are at the center of this, as they believe that "by definition, marriage is a culmination of love between a man and woman". Catholics have been slightly more understanding, though they their stance typically has been against gay marriage. I personally am a Buddhist, and though same sex relations are strictly forbidden and are grounds for dismissal as a monk, Buddhists are typically more open to compassion. Buddhists generally don't care if two men or two women want to marry each other, as it is their choice, it's just that Buddhists cannot (according to their beliefs) marry or engage in any conduct with a member of the same sex.

Personally, I am not gay nor do I have any tendencies towards that orientation, but it is a personal preference. I do not look down on someone because of this, and I feel if 2 men or 2 women want to be together, so be it. It is not my choice, but I will not condemn them based on their personal preferences. Everyone deserves to be happy, and if a person of the same sex makes you happy, all the more power to you. I have already been married and divorced, and I feel that everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, should have that right as well. I think we all need to take a step back and stop preaching and let people live their life and pursue their own path to happiness and enlightenment...but that's just me.
