* PC Or Mac *
Unless you've been living under a rock the last couple
years, you've undoubtedly seen the ads produced by Apple where the 'coined
phrase' is "I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC". While I do congratulate Apple on
coining such a memorable ad campaign, I still have a beef with it.
Personally, if I was given the choice of either Mac or PC,
I'd be conflicted... both have their strong points. PC's have familiarity
and ease of use... they have been around for a long time and are considered
'the standard'. Mac's have become much more 'user friendly' and are a LOT
less prone to viruses and errors (a PC's blue screen of death still makes me
shudder). However, the ad campaign acts like an United States election, with
just 2 parties involved, even though there are other parties that generally
are considered 'throw-away' votes. There is a major player that has remained
in the minority, with a fast rising following... Linux. I work with Ubuntu
Linux, and have worked with various companies that distribute Linux
Operating Systems. In case you did not know, the internet is based on Linux,
and with good reason. The language is complex, and allows a lot more freedom
versus Windows or Mac based systems. Linux is not a run of the mill 'Plug
And Play' operating system; it actually requires thought and manipulation of
commands.
Now, if you plan on just playing video games on your
computer, then I would naturally veer towards PC's, as their compatibility
and selection is unmatched. If you plan to use your computer to work online
and offline, I would go with Linux... unless you're happy with not thinking,
then go with a Mac. That's my 2 cents.
