* People Stop Learning *
Until recently, I wondered what a lot of people were acting
the way they were. It seemed like everyone's IQ seems to have dropped 50
points, as they come off as genuinely idiotic in both their mannerisms and
mentalities, and then it hit me... people seemingly have stopped learning.
Now, I'm not condemning everyone into this category, so
don't jump to that conclusion; there is, however, a huge group that I am
talking about. These people feel that since they are no longer in school,
there's no further point in learning. They feel that they are fine with what
they've learned thus far, and have officially shut off their brain from
working. If you want proof of this, just check out some of the videos on
YouTube. I understand there is supposed to be an 'entertainment value' to
some of the videos, but seriously, a lot of people missed that point by
quite some distance. I've witnessed a large amount of stupidity that has
gained quite the momentum in the past couple years and it doesn't seem that
it's reached it's apex just yet. I try to talk to people about a variety of
topics, and to my dismay, the majority tell me "I don't get it" and when I
try to explain it (even in general terms) they often counter with "why
bother knowing that?". I have yet to find an employee to work for me, mainly
because when I tell them they will still have to learn a lot, every one of
them says "I'll consider it" and never return. It's truly sad that people
are willing to walk away from a six figure yearly salary for the mere fact
that they have stopped learning and are adamant about not started to learn
new things again.
While it may be comforting to stick with what you know, you
may be limiting yourself severely. Throughout my life, I continue to learn a
lot through friends, family, business associates, classes, and taking it
upon myself to read lots of books on whatever subject I'm trying to educate
myself on. I've gained a lot of book smarts as well as street smarts, and I
continue to improve and enhance them. If you want to stop learning, so be
it... I can't force you to do something you aren't willing to do yourself;
just don't bother trying to work for me. I hope some of you do try to
continue learning though... it would be a shame to see this world collapse
on itself.
