* Popularity *

High school was mainly about one thing and that was popularity. Admit it or not, that part of life always boiled down to "Are they popular or not?". Once you're done with high school though, being popular doesn't matter any more... or so many people think

Life can be hard, and many people breathe a sigh of relief once the 'popularity contests' are over. I have noticed, however, that being popular can get you further in life. While there are exceptions (ex. Bill Gates), popular people generally get treated better. While I was in high school, I was not a part of any 'popular clicks', but once I graduated, things drastically changed. I became popular and well known, and suddenly things came easier. I'm always going to parties, socializing, and have managed to be heard and seen on the radio and television. I also get treated differently... people always want to hang around me, friends are always willing to do things for me, and strangers generally treat me greatly. At my previous jobs, I was always able to get away with things that would get other employees reprimanded. I was given raises while other people were losing their jobs. A night at the bar means I become someone's 'bro' and I get a free drink or three.

I admit, I am pretty popular (and yes, that does come off as conceited). I wasn't always popular, but I do know one major 'trick' that helped my popularity jump upward dramatically... confidence. The 'secret' that all these 'gurus' are charging an arm and a leg for you to know is simply having confidence. While I was in high school, I didn't have much confidence... once I graduated, I spent a lot of my time becoming more confident, and as a result, became popular. I have found that being popular now does mean I'm treated better, but first I had to have confidence in myself... then I gained popularity and I admit I do enjoy it! I recommend working on becoming more confident if you want to be popular, but then again, that's just what worked for me. Believe in yourself, and everyone else will follow!
