* Texting While Driving *

It was bound to happen. In this fast paced, on the go world, people seem to have no time to do anything anymore. People are running around like chickens with their head cut off, and they're always busy (or at least trying to look like they are.) Now it seems to have gotten worse, with more and more people text messaging on their phones while driving, and it's really starting to tick me off.

Ok, so I do kind of 'get it'. You're busy, running 1,001 errands while dealing with work, friends, family, etc. You savor every chance to escape your surroundings and maybe help raise your spirits. I do have to ask though... are you seriously so narcissistic and self-indulgent that you find the need to fill that void in your life by taking your focus off the road and instead focusing on that oh-so important message from your friend asking you what you think about a particular restaurants secret sauce. Silly me for getting mad at you for rear-ending my $62,000 car because you just had to text your BFF and let them know you got so drunk last night and you don't remember how you got home (irony, I know). You say you're bored while waiting the 35 seconds for the traffic light to change to green again? I say if you get that bored that easily, then apparently you are inherently a boring person. You say that you simply must reply to a text message because it's hyper-critical to your social life? I say you are a self-indulgent narcissistic moron and deserve to have your vehicle impounded and crushed into a cube with your cell phone / PDA / smartphone sitting on the dashboard while you are forced to watch and unable to stop it from happening.

I understand, a lot of people are texting while driving, so why shouldn't you? Well, a lot of people are killing themselves every day, so why shouldn't you? Yeah, that was harsh... but in essence, if you do happen to be one of those idiots that chooses to text message people while you're behind the wheel, you are highly risking causing an accident; you may be one of the responsible for taking your own life and possibly taking someone else's life as well. I'm glad that Chicago has made it illegal not only to talk on your cell phone while driving, but also made it illegal to text message while behind the wheel (even if you are stuck at a traffic light). It's a step in the right direction... and one that I hope does actually get some initiative and is heavily enforced. You texting your friend about what a rough night you had... definitely not worth my life. Take some responsibility, pull over into a parking lot, and send your texts. I'm tired of paying for a new bumper.
